FAQs

  • Why have braces? Braces improve the overall function of teeth and have a positive impact on an individual’s appearance and self-esteem.

  • What age is appropriate for a consult and why? The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children be seen initially at the age of seven for orthodontic evaluation. Treatment can be provided at any age, however young, growing patients provide more treatment options.

  • Can patients still play sports or musical instruments?  The construction of mouth guards is more cumbersome and requires additional adaptation. All musical instruments are available to patients however; the brass instruments and particularly the flute seem to be the most difficult.

  • Can you be too old for treatment?  Treatment can be done at any age but older patients often have complicating factors that necessitate more complex treatment plans.

  • I am interest in Invisalign® (treatment without braces) and would like to know if every case is suitable? No, treatment with Invisalign® has limitations and generally is more successful with less complex problems.  Dr. Boyko will be happy to advise you if this option will be good for you.  If you have any further questions about Invisalign®, please visit their website at www.invisalign.com.

  • How long will treatment be? Treatment can vary from nine months to three years depending on the complexity of the problem.

  • Why is it necessary to have teeth removed in some instances?  Although we strive to avoid tooth removal, in some cases due to jaw size differences, tooth size, or overcrowding, it will sometimes necessitate removal of selected teeth.

  • What can affect my treatment? Timing of treatment, compliant patients, age and metabolism of patients, growth factors, severity of the problems all affect treatment.

  • Where can I find more information?  If patients or parents have any further questions they can visit the following websites:
